Frequently asked questions
Every online workshop has a target audience which is signified by its category (workshop categories defined) and the workshop outline. Online workshops are open for anyone to register; it is, however, the participants’ responsibility to select the workshop that would be most appropriate for their needs.
IB online professional development workshops are listed on the IB workshops and conferences page, on the Online Professional Development website, and on the IB Online Curriculum Centre (OCC) subject pages as news items for teachers.
We currently offer online workshops for those subjects listed on IB websites, IBIS and OCC. However, more online workshops are being developed. These will be advertised when they become available.
You can register for the workshop of your choice by following the instructions at http://onlineworkshops.ibo.org/online-workshops-registration. Be advised that you should enter the email address of the participant as it is this address which will be used in all communication.
Once the registration deadline (14 days (GMT +2:00) prior to a workshop beginning has passed, registrations can still be made, but only for future workshops. Please note that Online Professional Development does not accept 'late registrations'; if the deadline is missed, the next available workshop start date should be selected during registration.
Unless there is a generic course available, we would not advise taking part in workshops for subjects other than your own area. The online workshop facilitator is trained specifically in the subject on offer: they therefore would be unable to offer help and advice on other subjects. Each workshop is tailored to each specific subject area so would only be of limited use if it is not your specialized subject.
Once you have registered for an online workshop and confirmation has been sent via email, user account details and further information will be sent a few days before the course begins, via the participant's email address supplied at registration.
Sometimes internal filters may block incoming emails from our workshop providers. If you have not received your login details by the time your workshop is due to commence, please contact your coordinator who will have been sent the details as a backup. It is also important that you contact the team at ibid@ibo.org at the earliest opportunity in order to resolve any remaining issues.
Online workshops are available 24 hours a day and, as such, there are no specific times that users need to be online. This is entirely flexible and is left to a participant's discretion. In order to receive full credit for the workshop, we recommend that you maintain at least the recommended hours each week. On occasion, workshop leaders may schedule live or real-time events. The exact time for synchronous participation will be negotiated with the participants.
Online workshops are designed so that users don't all need to be online at the same time. This allows us to offer the online workshops across all IB regions and allows for a good mix of cultures and experiences within each workshop, despite time differences.
We limit enrollment in our workshops to ensure appropriate facilitator/participant ratios. In order for the online facilitators to respond to individual questions and assist and interact with participants throughout the course, we currently limit the number of participants to a maximum of 25 for each offering. This helps to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
Yes, we fill workshops on a first-come first-served basis. When a workshop becomes full we will have a waiting list in operation and will offer places on future workshop iterations.
If you are looking to attend an IB face-to-face workshop please visit http://www.ibo.org/events/. All IB face-to-face workshops can be found listed in the workshops and conferences calendar along with registration information. Any questions regarding face-to-face IB workshops should be directed to the regional office running the workshop.
Online workshops are priced in GBP and the cost is listed on the registration page. For invoice payment, workshops are charged at a fixed rate for each of the currencies (example a GBP 350.00 workshop costs USD 561.00). All credit card payments will be charged at the daily exchange rate when payment is taken.
Payment can be made by credit card (VISA or Mastercard only) or bank transfer via an invoice. You are required to provide details of payment at the time of registration. It is important to note that invoice payment is only available to IB world schools or those in the process of becoming an IB school. We accept payment in GBP, USD and CHF. Payment can be made by credit card, bank transfer or by cheque.
Whether you choose to pay by invoice or by credit card, you can access your payment details in your registration account via the billing tab.
Please read our cancellation policy carefully which sets out clearly the process to be followed if you wish to cancel. To inform Online Professional Development of your request to cancel you registration, please email ibid@ibo.org.
The number of hours taken to complete a workshop can be stated on the certificate. However at present it is not possible to obtain graduate credits.
All you require to access an online workshop is a computer with an internet connection. A recent version of Adobe Acrobat® Reader®, which is available free of charge from the Adobe website, is recommended to view some documents as is a recent version of Adobe Flash Player. It is also advisable to download the latest version of your chosen internet browser. We recommend the use of either Microsoft Internet Explorer of Mozilla Firefox for ease of viewing workshop material.
Upon successful completion of the online workshop you will receive an electronic certificate of completion which will be digitally signed. Please allow four weeks after the workshop has ended for this certificate to be revealed in your registration account.
