Maths SL Internal Assessment (old curriculum)
Overview
Workshop time commitment will depend on the level of engagement from the participants, however it is expected to be around 4-6 hours per week in the case of a standard length workshop or 8-12 hours per week for a condensed workshop.
Registrations can be submitted up to 14 days (GMT +2.00) prior to the workshop start date. Any cancellation occurring 14 days or more prior to the first day of the workshop will receive credit for the full amount of the registration fee. Outline
Note that this workshop addresses the current course and contains the following modules:
Module 1: What is Internal Assessment?
This module will provide an in-depth discussion about the role of IA in the Math SL programme. We will examine how the Learner's Profile relates to the IA, the Teacher Support Material, and Academic Honesty.
Module 2: Type I tasks
This module centres on type I tasks and the assessment criteria. Activities will include creating a marking guide to several different type I tasks, marking of several samples of actual student work, and discussions on common errors encountered during the marking process.
Module 3: Type II tasks
This module will focus on type II tasks and the assessment criteria. Once again, actually student sample will be examined and discussed. Participants will be guided through the marking process and have opportunities to discuss the challenges they have encounter.
Module 4: Introducing the Portfolio to Your Students
During this course of this module, participants will brainstorm specific information about IA that they may want to share with students. They will prepare an information document to hand out to students and create a timeline of how to fit the IA into their course. Discussions on how to incorporate international mindedness into the IA will take place.
Module 5: Submitting your sample
The purpose of this module is to prepare participants to for the submission of their sample. We will discuss the moderation process, how the sample is chosen & important dates to consider, what to do with atypical work and the forms used for IA. Each of these modules contains information and opportunities designed to enhance a teacher's understanding of the Internal Assessment for Math SL. The areas covered will include: • The philosophy of Internal assessment • The Learner's Profile • Academic Honesty & IA • Type I & II tasks • Marking of actual students' work • The marking criteria • How to prepare students to complete the IA • International mindedness & IA • The moderation process • How to handle atypical work • The forms for IA
